RDP stands for Remote Desktop Protocol. Remote Desktop Protocol is a technical protocol developed by Microsoft to provide a user with graphical interface connection to another computer remotely. You may have notice the Remote Desktop Connection software on your Windows computer.
RDP allows one to remotely control or connect to an RDP Server enabled Computer through Local Networks or the internet. Remote Desktop Protocol allows remote users to control the other windows computer stationed in another location. Remote Desktop Protocol is For Windows only, with RDP you can connect to a Windows RDP server. No when talk of RDP for windows computers only, also keep in mind that not all windows versions supports RDP sever establishment as only a few windows server versions supports it.
So in short, RDP is for transmitting the remote server's screen to the Client User and the Client User's keyboard and mouse to the remote server. And by this, the client user has full control of the RDP server.

Ø What is an RDP Server?
For the sake of simplicity, let’s understand The RDP Server as a windows device that has installed the necessary components to share its control to an RDP remote user or an RDP client User.

Ø What is a client?
A client is one who controls the remote servers using an RDP client software. One can connect to an RDP server from windows, macOS, android and iOS because Microsoft officially provides RDP client apps for all of the above platforms. However one can as well connect to an RDP server using Linux or other platforms but only when using third party applications or equipment.
Ø Requirements to connect to a Remote Desktop Protocol Server
There are no quite special requirements to establish a connection between the RDP server and your Device. All you need is an RDP server IP address with a port and an RDP client application on your device. For android, you will find the Official RDP client app of Microsoft in google play store and for windows, you can use preinstalled software the Remote Desktop Connection.

Due the extreme Popularity of RDP/VPS today, there are lots of RDP/VPS providers over the internet. Some are costly while others are quite cheap.

Firstly ensure you have read the above contents about RDP, RDP servers, RDP Client carefully. So
- It helps one control a high-end computer using a Low-end device: one can control a windows computer with good amount of RAM, high processing power ,etc. on just a smartphone
