Has anything changed when people began engaging in sexual
activity before marriage? What are the repercussions? And why is it so normal?
I'm aware that the majority of you never consider this issue or even attempt to
pay serious attention to it. But even so, everyone has given it some conscious
or unconscious consideration at least once in their lifetime.
Let's first look at the earlier times, before the later
began. In contrast to the independent weddings of today, there were what we
used to term as arranged marriages before.
The days
of Arranged marriages; Our
ancient forefathers used to marry off their daughters when they were still
maidens because they got to pick the groom. Relationships, courtship, and
dating as we know them now were not possible. Even though most, if not all, of
these marriages lasted until the death of one partner, they never had the
chance to get to know each other as it is the meaning of relationships in this
Gen Z era.

In the Bible's Old Testament era, individuals like Abraham,
Joshua, and Joseph, among many others, only engaged in sexual activity after
marriage since doing so symbolized their unity and ensured that they would be
together until death.
Second, the times of Autonomous marriages; Here is where individuals choose their preferred
partners. People assert that having sex with one's partner continues to be a
link even before marriage and, in fact, increases the bond to make the
relationship stay longer, which is quite contentious on many instances.
Contrary to marriages that didn't break up, these relationships terminate even
before they begin, and by the time a person is ready to be married, they have
already had three or more sexual partners. Furthermore, divorce has become a
simple process even when they continue and result in marriage. Returning to our

Even though this may be a setback, it's even worse because
our educational system has played a significant role in it. Most young people
today find it difficult to control their sexual urges because they choose to
forgo the later stages of life until they are at least 20 years old, in
contrast to our ancestors who married off their daughters at age 15 when they
had just begun to experience puberty.
Girls becoming pregnant before marriage and males often
finding it simple to deny this is one of the most egregious effects of sex
before marriage on the feminine gender.
More so the increasing health problems have been a result of this;
- Sexually transmitted Infections and diseases such as HIV are at high rates due to moving from one relationship to another.
- More health problems that weaken our emotional and physical health are majorly caused by heart breaks after parting with a sexual partner due to the depression that comes with loss of a bond making it risky.
This takes us to the realization that partnerships are not
merely sexual but also emotional, and that each step must be taken with extreme
caution. Since a partnership is
typically centered on love, intimacy should be mostly emotional. Even if we
don't like to admit it, the majority of these relationships haven't ended due
just to infidelity or sex but also due to other issues like time, distance,
religion, emotions, and many more. Relationships can collapse for a variety of
reasons, including lack of honesty, inability to relate to a partner's
character (whether male or female), lack of providence, religious differences,
long distance relationships, and minor sex in or out of partnerships. This
brings us back to our roots.
Lastly, if you're stumped about what you'd do to strengthen
your love, here are some of the numerous recommendations and things to put into
practice.
« Praying together because God needs to be first in our life.
« Increased communication with your partners
« Doing Fun activities together such as going out on dates,
trips, gifting one another.
